WESTON, Fla. — October 28, 2026

A city of 68,000 residents with just 13 direct municipal employees is now answering calls around the clock with voice AI. On September 16, 2026, the City of Weston moved its main City Hall line to EffiGov voice AI 24 hours a day. Permitting calls route to a dedicated Permitting agent connected to Accela, so permit and inspection questions are answered from the live record while the caller is still on the phone.

Illustrative call with an example record. Not a real Weston permit or caller.

Weston is a master-planned city in western Broward County, incorporated in 1996, and one of the leanest full-service cities in Florida: a direct staff of 13 runs the city by contracting nearly everything else. Call volume never shrank to match. Permit status, inspections, contractor licensing, parks, water leaks, and residents who just need the right person all arrive on the same line. Previously, residents calling after business hours often had to wait until the next business day.

In its first month operating around the clock, the two agents answered more than 6,700 calls: 4,989 on the City Hall line and 1,787 on the dedicated Permitting agent. More than 890 permit and inspection records were read live from Accela, giving callers direct access to that information without requiring staff to retrieve records manually.

Weston has always focused on delivering efficient, responsive services with a lean municipal staff, and EffiGov does just that. A resident reporting a water leak at 11 PM now has the address confirmed and the call routed to the right district's on-call crew, and every resident has another way to reach the city at any hour.

The Accela integration matters most for the Permitting agent, where permit status, inspection results, and inspection scheduling are three of the city's most common reasons to call. The agent looks up the permit in Accela during the call and gives the caller the answer directly, whether a permit has been issued, an inspection has passed, or a balance is still owed.

The Accela integration makes a real difference. The agent isn't just working from a script. It can retrieve the same permit and inspection information our staff use, so contractors can get answers directly over the phone without needing to speak with staff.

Director of Technology Services, City of Weston

"Weston asked the right question from day one: not whether the agent could talk, but whether it could read their system," said Aubteen Pour-Biazar, Co-Founder and CEO of EffiGov. "A contractor on a roof doesn't just want a pleasant voice. They want to know if the inspection passed. Now they can find out at 7 AM, without waiting for the office to open."

Weston soft-launched the City Hall line on August 4, reviewed live calls with EffiGov each week, and moved to 24/7 primary routing in September. Every call is recorded, transcribed, and audited for accuracy↓.
